US Defense Department Aims to Create Human Cyborgs

The hydrogel used to preserve the mRNA can also contain nanobots to create a bioelectric interface capable of connecting to a smartphone or other interface. 

Novel technologies that measure biological data, such as blood sugar, are based on this. 

Such technologies will, of course, have immediate ramifications for our privacy.

Who will collect and have access to all this data? Who will be responsible for protecting it? How will it be used? Also, if your cellphone can receive information from your body, what information can your body receive from it, or other sources? Could transmissions affect your mood? Your behavior? Your physical function? Your thoughts or memories?

So far, it doesn’t appear as though the COVID shots have these kinds of capabilities built in, but we do know for a fact that militaries around the world are exploring and working toward such capabilities. In fact, it’s an arms race in its own right.

 

In his September 14, 2022, Substack article,13 “Human Cyborgs Are Just the Beginning,” Dr. Robert Malone reviewed several of those plans. Certain report titles alone tell the story, such as the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) Biotechnologies for Health and Human Performance Council’s report,14 “Cyborg Soldier 2050: Human/Machine Fusion and the Implications for the Future of the DOD.” It doesn’t leave a whole lot to the imagination, does it? According to the assessment abstract:

“The primary objective of this effort was to forecast and evaluate the military implications of machines that are physically integrated with the human body to augment and enhance human performance over the next 30 years.

This report summarizes this assessment and findings; identifies four potential military-use cases for new technologies in this area; and assesses their impact upon the DOD organizational structure, warfighter doctrine and tactics, and interoperability with U.S. allies and civil society.”

Human augmentation technologies deemed technically feasible by 2050 at the latest include ocular enhancements to improve sight and situational awareness, optogenetic bodysuit to restore or improve muscular strength and control, auditory enhancements, and neural enhancement of the brain for two-way data transfers and brain-to-brain communication.

 

Changing What It Means To Be Human

In “The Plan to Turn You Into a Genetically Edited Cyborg,” I covered another shockingly dystopian report by the U.K. Ministry of Defense and the German Bundeswehr Office for Defense Planning, published in May 2021.

That report, “Human Augmentation — The Dawn of a New Paradigm, a Strategic Implications Project,”15 reviews the scientific goals of the U.K. and German defense ministries, and they basically mirror that of the U.S. DOD. On page 12 of the report, the concept of the human body as a platform is described, and how various parts of the human platform can be augmented. For example:

 

Physical performance such as strength, dexterity, speed and endurance can be enhanced, as well as physical senses. One example given is gene editing for enhanced sight

Psychological performance such as cognition, emotion and motivation can be influenced to activate and direct desired behavior. Examples of cognitive augmentation include improving memory, attention, alertness, creativity, understanding, decision-making, intelligence and vigilance

Social performance — “The ability to perceive oneself as part of a group and the readiness to act as part of the team” — can be influenced. Communication skills, collaboration and trust are also included here

 

They list several different ways to influence the physical, psychological and social performance of the “human platform,” including genetics (germ line and somatic modification), synthetic biology, invasive (internal) and noninvasive (external) brain interfaces, passive and powered exoskeletons, drugs and nano technology, neurostimulation, augmented reality technologies such as external holograms or glasses with built-in artificial intelligence, and sensory augmentation technologies such as external sensors or implants.

As noted in this report, “Human augmentation has the potential to ... change the meaning of what it means to be a human.” This is precisely what Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF), has stated is the goal of The Fourth Industrial Revolution.16

WEF has been at the center of global affairs for more than 40 years, and if you take the time to dive into WEF’s Fourth Industrial Revolution material, you realize that it’s all about transhumanism. It’s about the merger of man and machine.

This is a dystopian future that WEF and its global allies are actively trying to implement, whether humanity at large agrees with it or not. Importantly, the “Human Augmentation” report readily admits that human augmentation can “directly enhance behavior.”

And, if you think these reports are just brain fodder for geeks in uniforms, think again. The U.K. Defense and Security Accelerator (DASA) is currently, right now, accepting proposals for human augmentation technologies such as those listed above.17 Grants of 70,000 euros ($74,000), will be given to proposals that can provide proof of concept.

 

We’re Already Being Programmed to Accept Transhumanism

Both the DOD’s “Cyborg Soldier” report and the British/German “Human Augmentation” reports discuss the fact that human augmentation will inevitably widen already existing disparities, inequalities and inequities, and therefore, “efforts should be undertaken to reverse negative cultural narratives of enhancement technologies.”18

In other words, don’t let people come to the conclusion that human cyborgs are a bad idea, because at worst that might prevent their development, and at best, it’ll pitch regular people against the augmented elite, making their efforts to rule the plebs more difficult.

As noted by Malone, “Once again, we are being played before we even know what the playing field looks like.”19

Disturbingly, considering how nontransparent governments have been so far, it’s not inconceivable that technologies capable of influencing thoughts and behaviors would be used on populations without informing anyone, which makes the list of potential risks one takes with each new mRNA injection even longer than it already is.

But we don’t need to be genetically reengineered or have nanobots introduced into our brains to be at risk of outside manipulation. That’s already happening through noninvasive means.

 

Control Capabilities Go Far Beyond Orwell’s ‘1984’ Vision

In a November 2019 interview with CNN,20 history professor Yuval Noah Harari, a Klaus Schwab disciple, stated that humans are already “hackable,” meaning the technology exists by which a company or government can know you better than you know yourself, and this knowledge can be used for both good and ill.

According to Harari, the available capabilities already go far beyond Orwell’s “1984” authoritarian vision, and it’s only going to become more powerful from here.

He predicted that algorithms will increasingly be used to make decisions that historically have been made by humans, either yourself or someone else, including whether or not you’ll be hired for a particular job, whether you’ll be granted a loan, what scholastic curriculum you will follow and even whom you will marry.

For example, there are even ongoing attempts to upload the human mind into the cloud, ultimately creating a form of “digital hive mind” where everyone communicates via “Wi-Fi telepathy.” This, despite the fact we still do not fully understand what “the mind” actually is, or where it’s located.

 

 

Final Thoughts

I don’t know what it will take to prevent the dystopian post-human world envisioned by Schwab and his technocratic minions, but I suspect education would be a cornerstone of such an endeavor. In order for there to be a resistance, enough people need to be aware of what the plan is, and where we’re actually being led with all these novel therapies and inventions.

In the shorter term, it’s crucial to realize that the fast-tracking of “genetic engineering technologies and techniques to be able to write circuitry for cells and predictably program biology in the same way in which we write software and program computers” means they’re going to cut corners. Loads of them.

The World Is Now the Opposite of Everything it Is ‘Supposed’ to Be

Comedy is a true reflection of life, and in many ways, humor can be used to explain the unexplainable; to expose the ludicrous nature of constant seriousness, and the fallibility of man from the standpoint of critical reality in a not-so-severe manner.  In order to find the truth, it is sometimes necessary to laugh out loud and at one’s self, and others as well, and in the process, come to see things more clearly.

 

It has been said that with evil, comes inversion. If this is in fact true, and I believe that it is, we are now living in a time of extreme evil. This world has been turned upside down, as everything seems to be the opposite of what it should be. Where we once had more freedom, we now have more slavery. Where we once were excited about life, we now are depressed. Where we once were a family, we now are alone, and where we once were bold and unafraid, we now live in fear. If everything we are doing is wrong, then doing the opposite should be right.

The ‘normal’ that is sought then, should be the opposite of most everything happening today, so instead of cancel culture, maybe we should concentrate on cancelling the non-artistic, the non-cultural, the unenlightened, the unintellectual, the mass hatred that has nothing to do with fake racism, and everything to do with modern progressivism. It is time to accept our real history and learn from it instead of destroying it. To destroy the past is to destroy the future, and our future is being taken from us by brute force, voluntary submission, and mass stupidity in a world turned upside down.

The possible caveat to this current situation of course, is that humanity is, and has always been, just a messed-up experiment gone bad; that man is inherently evil, and incapable of happiness, love, compassion, empathy, tolerance, and that this path we are on is the natural culmination of fate. If that is so, then nothing of value matters, and life is but a short trek toward death. If the majority ever come to believe this, we are doomed, but if the majority do have natural tendencies of good, then the many should stand against all forms of tyranny, and take back their individual selves, allowing for a better world, and one of more sanity and calm.

 

With that said, let us look at where we are, where we have been, and where we are going, and once that hell is understood, maybe people will be able to muster enough strength to turn this around and escape the madness. Whether optimistic about this possibility or not, and no reason for unbridled optimism exists to date, without a major change in not only attitude, but also character, of the general population, the future will be very bleak indeed.

 

Truth-telling writers have for thousands of years warned of tyranny and global authoritarian rule, and what has now happened is the culmination of those prescient predictions. The human race has been through it all it seems; mass propaganda, heinous wars, torture, maiming, murderous slaughter, starvation, mass hatred, communism, tyranny, totalitarian monsters, sickness and death, and so much more. But in this current day, we face the beginning of the end of mankind; all due to a global political coup run by the ruling class, its banks, corporations, and governments, that began in early 2020, and spread like a fraudulent plague that was purposely used as the tool for the conquest of the world population. This merciless insanity has continued and advanced unabated since that time. What was said to be a short-term problem, and one that would allow for a return to some perceived ‘normal,’ in a matter of weeks, has turned into two years of irresponsible hysteria in the midst of tyranny. Now, there is no conclusion in sight; this by design, unless we as a people take on this totalitarian monster, and defeat it.

 

The timeline of these recent abhorrent events is literally unbelievable to any thinking being, but nonetheless this obvious state deception has captured the minds of the common hordes who make up the mass collective herd. Because of this dynamic, we all face extinction by depopulation, mind control, and technocratic domination; a planned outcome sought by the ruling few.

While the plan to rule the world due to a fake ‘virus’ was long in the making, decades in fact, these current events based on the bogus narrative began with the WHO pronouncement on January 9, 2020 that a “mysterious coronavirus pneumonia was found in Wuhan.” There was a specific reason why this false flag was said to have originated in China, as all roads to global totalitarian rule are based on the China model structured, set up, and funded over decades by the U.S. and much of the western world.

None of the timelines spoke of the shutting down of businesses, the loss of jobs, the resulting bankruptcy and starvation, the imprisonment due to home arrest of much of the population, the immune system ruin, the mass quarantines, the unending mandates, destruction of family, the mass travel shutdowns, continuous bogus testing, the murder of the elderly, the killing by remdesivir and ventilators, the staged and allowed riots and property destruction, the shutting down of supply lines, the rampant inflation, or many, many other atrocities committed by or due to the state over the past two years. And this is just the partial list for 2020. The year 2021 list is much longer, and more brutal, due to continued fascism and the poisonous and deadly ‘Covid’ injections that are killing more and more worldwide.

2021 saw a huge increase in adverse reactions to deadly shots falsely called ‘vaccines,’ much more harm at every level of state terror, huge maiming and death counts due to multiple poisonous bioweapon injections, death of athletes worldwide, more and more propaganda, lockdowns, quarantine, concentration camp construction across the western world, and lies about multiple ‘variants’ of a non-proven, non-existent mystery disease called “Covid-19.’ To list all the state’s barbarous acts over the past two years would take volumes, and the war on children is just now beginning.

Those who think this tyranny is lessening, those who’ believe’ all will end well, those who continue to comply with all mandates and orders, those who are now infected with toxic poison for life due to getting jabbed, those who have abandoned family because they do not act as slaves, and those who continue to cower in fear due to pathetic apathy, may not ever accept the truth, but they will certainly see it. One can hide from reality only so long before that reality consumes and devours them. That dreadful fate awaits many today, but it does not have to await the rest of us who are willing to defend our lives and freedom.

I am increasingly convinced that the world has gone mad. As for me, I just want an off ramp from this crazy expressway to hell. I have been trying to do my best to help people all over the globe for the past two years. Constant traveling. Constant podcasting. And dealing with the constant stream of hate, derision, sneering gaslighting, and malicious defamation has just worn me out. And now it is coming at me from both sides, including people that I thought were in this foxhole with me as colleagues.

At first I was accused of just wanting attention. Of falsely claiming to have invented the technology which, in an amazing example of intentional strategic promotion of “stolen valor”, was claimed to have been invented at U Penn by Drs. Katie Kariko and Drew Weissman. Even Moderna and its key scientific founder Bob Langer seemed to find it useful to deny the many issued patents documenting my work and inventions as well as others from Vical. I could post the email exchanges I have had with Langer about this. And yes, although Kariko and Weissman were not awarded the Nobel prize last year (to the great surprise of corporate media and many in the scientific establishment), they did receive a variety of awards from all over the world with a total haul of many millions of dollars. And I did object to being written out of history on Wikipedia and corporate media in the rush to market these two to the review committee in Stockholm. But that was then. That “Nobel Prize fever” seems to have broken when they did not receive the award last year.

 

Next there was the Maui physician who tried to get my Maryland medical license canceled, filing a complaint that I had caused millions of deaths due to the misinformation I was spreading about the (lack of) safety of the genetic vaccines, which was causing vaccine hesitancy, resulting in my being a mass murderer. That bundle of happiness arrived just before Christmas 2021, and had to be addressed in writing immediately to my medical board. Merry Christmas.

To be clear to the nattering nabob concern trolls, no, I did not get millions of dollars for my inventions involving mRNA. I received one Susan B Anthony dollar and a paper certificate. That was it. And a nervous breakdown. And a diagnosis of PTSD.

Now the narrative has turned. I am chronically accused of being “controlled opposition”. Apparently, or so I am told, even Del Bigtree is being accused of being “controlled opposition”. And I am accused of being a mass murderer for inventing the technology over thirty years ago which provided the platform for development of the current mRNA vaccines. This has become a favorite trope of Stew Peters and his acolytes. I previously addressed this tortured logic in this substack essay.

Unfortunately, based on my experiences over the last few months, I conclude that a large fraction of the population has apparently lost the ability or willingness to read, and wants everything presented to them as pre-digested video.

 

And oh, by the way, in some of the most perverse and tortured logic I have ever encountered, most recently an American 86 year old psychiatrist (Peter Roger Breggin) has developed and promoted the theory (on whatever broadcast and print forums he can find) that I am a mass murderer based on my promotion of the insights of psychologist Professor Dr. Mattias Desmet (“Psychology of Totalitarianism”, “Mass formation”, “Mass psychosis”). As near as I can reconstruct, the “logic” being advanced by Dr. Breggin is built on the false assertion that Desmet’s theories somehow deny the thesis which Breggin advances in his book entitled “COVID-19 and the Global Predators, We Are the Prey”.

Just be be clear, Desmet’s work is really just advancements and insights regarding the 21st century application of the work of Hannah Arendt , Joost Meerloo, Gustave Le Bon, and so many others reaching all the way back to the Allegory of the Cave from Plato’s Republic. Mattias Desmet has written at length refuting this contrived interpretation of Breggin which has now been repeated and amplified by others including Peter McCullough, Jane Ruby, and Stew Peters.

The reasoning of Dr. Breggin, as near as I can tell, goes like this- somehow Dr. Desmet (and by extension, me) is promoting the idea that what has happened over the last two (+) years is the fault of the individual public, and not the fault of the “Global Predators”. Which is preventing the global predators from being held accountable for their actions. Which is enabling the continued travesty of the grossly dysfunctional global public health response including continued promotion of the “clot shots” (thank you Dr. Ryan Cole for that phrase!). Which are causing millions of deaths.

For which Mattias and I are responsible. Which makes us both mass murderers. Which logic completely overlooks the Global COVID Summit declaration IV, which was rolled out on May 11, 2022. And explicitly called for stopping the SARS-CoV-2 genetic vaccines, as well as many other things which were pretty edgy at the time but are increasingly mainstream. But hey, who cares. Details, details. All grist for the outrage mill. Apparently, in the current age, this is how one sells books, vitamins, and air purifiers guaranteed to remove spike protein from the air.

 

Please take a moment and apply just a modicum of empathy. Would you like to be called a mass murderer and have people posting that you should be hung by the neck until dead? How would you react to this ?

Much of this most recent madness seems to have fermented during the Clay Clark ReAwaken American tour, and Clay Clark seems to have facilitated the distribution of these ideas. So Jill looked up what Clay Clark has been posting about me on Twitter (which I am permanently suspended from, and hence unaware of and unable to defend myself) and found that Mr. Clark has been amplifying the hate.

 

So, Jill wrote to him asking about why he is being such a bully. The outcome of which was his demand that I come on his show and address the two questions of why did I create the technology, and why am I part of ACTIV. I sent him copies of the many substacks I had written on these two topics, as well as the two hour podcast titled “Dr. Robert Malone, Inventor of using "RNA as a drug" and core mRNA and DNA vaccine technologies” which I recorded Jul 27, 2021, has had almost a million views, 27,000 “likes”, no dislikes, and over 6,200 comments. It is the most comprehensive interview I have recorded on this whole history which is in the public domain. Another even more extensive version was recorded in a private movie studio in Utah last fall, but I do not have rights to that and it has not been broadcast.

 

But apparently that is not enough for Mr. Clark and his colleagues. He insists that I record video responses to his two questions - doing so in writing is not sufficient for him and his followers.

This whole manufactured controversy is like a monster that will not die. And yes, I recognize the logic and many voices advising that I should just ignore it. Which ignoring then becomes weaponized and recycled as more evidence supporting the theory that I am controlled opposition. No end to this cycle, which seems to be very useful in generating clicks and book sales. A gift that keeps on giving, involving malicious defamation as a sport and as a business model. I previously wrote here about this dynamic, this historical tendency of groups and political movements at this stage of development to start to apply “purity tests” on members and perceived leaders, resulting in waves of “defenestration” or decapitation in the case of the French Revolution. Or so much murder and burning of supposed “witches” at one point in history that in many Swiss towns there were few women left to kill after that fever finally broke.

 

So, to appease those who feel that they are entitled to force me to tear out and publicly display yet another piece of my soul “for the good of humanity” as Mr. Clark put it in an email exchange, I offer the above 45 minute clip from this long two (+) hour interview. I have also filmed an interview here on the farm yesterday in which these (and many other) questions are asked and answered. That interview by LifeSite News will come out in multiple segments, and hopefully the first will provide the answers to Clay Clark’s questions.

I previously addressed the “You are a member of ACTIV” accusation in this substack, have now re-addressed it during this recent “LifeSite News” interview, and post the previously published text below for those who can read.

But as for me, I am tired of all of this drama.

 

This has never been about me. I have done my best to provide leadership and healing. Increasingly I just want to be left alone.

Jill and I will continue to publish this substack, seeking truth and understanding of what has been done and is continuing to be done to all of us by the US Administrative State and the various Globalist organizations. And hopefully, by doing so day after day, we might help you - the reader, our customer- to better understand and adapt to the changing world that you are encountering.

Handshakes, bullets and the Individual (part 1)

"React ! Don't do act !" ... Sing this on the tune of Frankies goes to Hollywood, 1984 (!). The eighties were the real turning point into the present reality. The digital era was boiling in the cauldrons while Deng Xiaoping was 'opening' China to the West and Gorbachev's Perestroika in effect signed the end of the Cold War. Just 40 years before today.

What the PTBs do best is providing us with a multiple goals fabricated reality. They say: 'Be active, just do it'. So that so, people are acting over passive goals which they didn't chose from inside but from outside. People think that they act whereas they react. One believes that he has chosen when he is only following scripts. People are therefore not acting but reacting. In the top-down controlled society, man is no more an actor, a creator but a player in a game he did not chose just like Chaplin at the factory. 

The individual is no more who he is but what 'They' want him to be, although he retains an illusion of his original free-will while choosing among all the prefab images of himself at his disposal. Each day is viewed as a challenge to progress toward artificial victories that are perceived as what you must reach to become who you believe that you want to be. 

You are no more yourself but a part in the Matrix. We're talking a lot about a 'Great Reset' albeit we already live through an infinity of small resets. Nothing is anymore permanent, your car and your driver license, your phone and your computer programs ... Your life. You have to update on a daily basis each and every step you are taking to only remain adapted to the necessities of a basic living and everyone of those steps takes you further away from who you are intrinsically. Even one's gender is not a definite immutable reality anymore ... This never achieved goal throw people into a superficial living mode where there is no future to plan for. Thus the raise and the success of fast food, fast pleasure and virtual reality.

To counter the pitiable dystopian 'reality' we have sunk into, most of the alternative authors are advocating as the ultimate remedy the centering on the individual. From a health outlook, like Joseph Mercola or Sayer Ji (GreenMedInfo) to a spiritual one like Dylan Charles (Waking Times) or Jon Rappoport, the reconquering of the individual power is the main topic. Many more writers are today referring to it as one if not the only solution to fight the PTBs. Empowering the individual looks like the ultimate goal to defeat the masters. 

Although I do praise and support such an approach, I think they miss the foundation of what is an individual and therefore the consequences of their discourses. The individual as essential as it is since it is the cornerstone of society is not and cannot be the goal in itself. You can homeschool your children with the highest possible education, intellectually, morally and spiritually but when they reach their teen years, they look outside to see what happen and, 'voila', they fall in love with Madonna, Bieber or anything that shines and forget on the spot all you had taught. They're gone, they're lost. 

If not for individuals to regroup around common principles that would transform the depraved society we're in, there is no hope in the individual itself.

Every individual entity is a form of life, a limited, in appearance and duration, expression of life that itself is universal and eternal. Thereby, the characteristics of any living individual are that of life. Today, no one knows how life 'appeared' in the universe, on earth, because life is not an 'emergence' but an embodiment of 'What is'. It took some fourteen billions years for the universe we live in to prepare the advent of life. Through the evolution of the universe, we can have a glimpse at what are the fundamentals of life, of our life. 

The universe went from a state of an indefinite mass to an organized cosmos. Its expansion was on pair with the emergence of shapes, with a differentiation of its primordial elements. When these elements came to become stable enough and reached a specific distribution, life could spring. These essential elements to life are an adequate level, composition and repartition, of light, air and water above and inside a determinate ground. In the case of the earth, it is a round planet that rotates around a sun with a temperature that allows water and atmosphere to exist. The basics of life are the sun, water and air.

Like the universe, life has had its evolution from the undetermined to the specialized. The universe, life have an orientation and therefore a meaning. From the first cellular division in water to the birth of an human child next to the sea, a lake or a river, life is showing an arrow of significance. This significance brings within two qualities among others: beauty and goodness. Life is a matter of being good and beautiful, inside as much as outside. 

 

Another thing to take into consideration are the the two elements that constitute the universe, matter and energy. At the beginning of the Big Bang, only energy existed. It took some time for matter to appear. There is energy in matter because it is derived from energy but the two now exist in separate forms. The breakthrough of life is resulting of a combination of matter and energy, the physical and non-physical realm of a living being.

Life creatures have a form that is made of matter but that holds its unique appearance from the energy that is inside that form. Take the energy out of the living form and the matter crumbles. 

You must first have a vision and then check facts to see how accurate you were. The vision must have bases, universal absolute bases. These bases preexist us, humans. They are to be found in Life, the Life we inherit for a time, for a short while. The goal is to create a good and beautiful society as nature shows us it can be in its realm, the individual being the tool.

All what is "big", governments, cities, businesses... must be outlawed. This is the only way out ! We must come back to the family, the neighborhood, the village through local autonomous grassroots collectivities settled in natural environments, and there are lots of country space to achieve that !!

Complex systems have principles of self-organization, processes at the origin of the organization of dynamic structures and their reproductive properties, from the smallest cellular unit to the most complex interactions within the organism and then between organisms for the same unit of time and space.

Prologue:

The Last Threshold

MAN HAS BEEN a part of the animal kingdom for more than three million years. Yet many cultures have seen man as quite separate, or excluded man entirely, from nature. We see this among monotheistic societies that nurture theological explanations for the origin of our species. Prior to the Scientific Revolution, theological considerations served largely to constrain inquiries in this area. The naturalist movement that emerged during this period enabled some finally to break free of scriptural assumptions.

Jean-Baptiste Lamarck held the chair in invertebrate zoology at the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle (MNHN) in Paris, when he published Recherches sur l’organisation des corps vivants (Research on the Organization of Living Bodies) in 1802. This small, but revolutionary, book contained the first theory of evolution applied to the origins of Homo sapiens. In this view the progressive straightening of the vertebral column seen in the first hominids was driven by climatic changes that forced some apes to adopt walking over arborealism. This idea was then popularized by Charles Darwin in The Descent of Man, published in 1871. It is now the consensus in paleoanthropology.

A very different reality is reflected in the collections of the MNHN, on which I have based my work. On the contrary, straightening, with its correlated anatomical and psychomotor changes, is an intrauterine process that took place over the course of more than forty million years. It resulted from a growth in complexity of the embryonic nervous system and its rotational dynamics, and led to a succession of threshold effects incompatible with the nested hierarchy of Linnaean classification.

NEURAL STRAIGHTENING FROM Australopithecus to Homo is linked to the development of the nervous system. This explains the straightening of not only the base of the skull but also the whole vertebral column. The neural tube is formed by fibers lengthening along its path above the notochord. Complex movements at stage nineteen of embryonic development, corresponding to the axis of rotation, can be seen above the point at which the dorsal cord terminates. Hominization begins precisely at the cephalic limit of the dorsal cord.

Remarkable.

The sole vertebrate embryo in which the dorsal cord extremity is almost verticalized is that of Homo sapiens. This is a process that began around thirty-nine million years ago in an Asian species of prosimian that underwent a contraction in the base of its skull and a declination of its brain stem. This produced the first degree of neural straightening and cranio-facial contraction in the simians. Twenty-three million years ago, at least one African species of small gibbon-like simians underwent further contraction and declination.

This produced the second degree of neural straightening. The embryonic dorsal cord was almost vertical among many species of great apes, remaining so until adulthood. This was presumably the case, at least, with respect to Australopithecus (4.5–1.977 mya). Thereafter the process accelerated, at an unprecedented rate. The lowered cerebellum and straightened brain stem is that of Homo sapiens, which Linnaeus named in 1758 and which emerged in East Africa 160,000 years ago. The evolutionary trajectory follows the straightening of the dorsal cord, but during the first stages of verticalization there was no dramatic accompanying increase in brain volume. Cranial volume is thus no longer the benchmark, or rubicon. The benchmark is, in fact, the straightening of the skull base.

WHEN AUSTRALOPITHECINE EMBRYOGENESIS emerged around 4 mya, the new organism was no longer a subspecies of great ape. It did not share a great ape’s neural embryogenesis, still visible today in gorillas, chimpanzees, and orangutans. The same is also true for Homo embryogenesis. There is no bone conformation that can be nested within previous embryonic organizations. The shapes of the structures are reorganized and innovations have appeared. This dynamic is typical of emergence in complex systems.

Sapiens embryogenesis is no longer that of any fossil Homo species. The axial skeleton reveals a new threshold of neural straightening and craniofacial contraction, with an increased complexity and reorganization of the central nervous system. The cerebellum is shifted even further toward the front and down. The occluso-postural equilibrium and the psychomotor development visible in, for example, Neanderthals, has also changed.

As Buffon and Cuvier observed, there is no unique pattern of anatomical organization among primates. The idea that there have been gradual transformations within the limits of a such an organization is absurd. This would mean that Homo sapiens has gone through all the strata of evolution—prosimian, ape, great ape, hominin. Homo sapiens is not a prosimian, nor is it a great ape. The conclusion that Homo sapiens is a primate indicates that prosimian innovations have been preserved. But it does not signify evolution within the limits of the same embryonic organization. Sapiens never passed through the stages of phylogenesis.

Linnaean classification is invisible in our embryogenesis.

If the word Homo must designate the paleoanthropes, then our embryogenesis is no longer Homo, but sapiens. This is true for each of the five great embryogeneses, or fundamental ontogeneses, since the emergence of Simian; each emerged from the preceding one, each time more complex in its neural organization. Numerous subspecies appear within the limits of the new axial embryogenesis, with different modes of locomotion and ways of life. Buffon, Cuvier, de Quatrefages, and Broca were right.

 

Conclusion

IT IS NOTHING short of remarkable that the ability to create second-degree stone tools emerged from the threshold of embryonic neural verticality. This is not an arbitrary boundary for distinguishing between Homo and other hominins, as is the case with the notion of a cerebral rubicon. The threshold is objective and allows for the deduction of a reorganization of the nervous system and its component neuronal networks with the sensors necessary for controlling the body’s equilibrium. In Homo sapiens, the connections between the cerebellar and cerebral neocortex are known, and it appears they participate in high-level cognitive functions, for example memory, dexterity, language, and reflection. Gestures such as walking and grasping become conscious with psychomotor development.

The great novelty here is the sudden change in posture of the cerebellum, and a new neuronal complexity; the cerebellum had to control its own balance. A new loop of complexity must have developed between the neocortex of the cerebellum and the brain. These connections could then have favored the development of new reflective cognitive capacities associated with movements, those of the hands in particular.

New manual chains of operation reflect a symbolic and conceptual level of thought attributed to the brain of the genus Homo. My suggestion is that the emergence of these capacities should be broadened to encompass the hominin stage, denoted by the verticalization of the cerebellum, such as for Australopithecus, Kenyanthropus, and Paranthropus. Although their brains were smaller than that of Homo habilis, they may have been capable of conceptual and creative innovations. Passing those first thresholds made possible the creative expression of ideas and concepts.

Crossing the final threshold, Sapiens, amplified those cognitive properties.

The right of property in things produced by labor— and this is the only true right of property—springs directly from the right of the individual to himself, or as Locke expresses it, from his "property in his own person."

It is as clear and has as fully the sanction of equity in any savage state as in the most elaborate civilization. Labor can, of com-se, produce nothing without land; but the right to the use of land is a primary individual right, not springing from society, or depending on the consent of society, either expressed or implied, but inhering in the individual, and resulting from his presence in the world.

Men must have rights before they can have equal rights. Each man has a right to use the world because he is here and wants to use the world. The equality of this right is merely a limitation arising from the presence of others with like rights.

Society, in other words, does not grant, and cannot equitably withhold from any individual, the right to the use of land. That right exists before society and independently of society, belonging at birth to each individual, and ceasing only with his death. Society itself has no original right to the use of land.

What right it has with regard to the use of land is simply that which is derived from and is necessary to the determination of the rights of the individuals who compose it. That is to say, the function of society with regard to the use of land only begins where individual rights clash, and is to secure equality between these clashing rights of individuals.

 

The primary error of the advocates of land nationalization is in their confusion of equal rights with joint rights, and in their consequent failure to realize the nature and meaning of economic rent— errors which I have pointed out in commenting on Mr. Spencer's declarations in “Social Statics".

In truth the right to the use of land is not a joint or common right, but an equal right; the joint or common right is to rent, in the economic sense of the term. Therefore, it is not necessary for the state to take land, it is only necessary for it to take rent.

This taking by the commonalty of what is of common right, would of itself secure equality in what is of equal right —for since the holding of land could be profitable only to the user, there would be no inducement for anyone to hold land that he could not adequately use, and monopolization being ended no one who wanted to use land would have any difficulty in finding it.

And it would at the same time secure the individual right, for in taking what is of common right for its revenues the state could abolish all those taxes which now take from the individual what is of individual right.

The truth is that customs taxes, and improvement taxes, and income taxes, and taxes on business and occupations and on legacies and successions, are morally and economically no better than highway robbery or burglary, all the more disastrous and demoralizing because practiced by the state. There is no necessity for them.

The seeming necessity arises only from the failure of the state to take its own natural and adequate source of revenue—a failure which entails a long train of evils of another kind by stimulating a forestalling and monopolization of land which creates an artificial scarcity of the primary element of life and labor, so that in the midst of illimitable natural resources the opportunity to work has come to be looked on as a boon, and in spite of the most enormous increase in the powers of production the great mass find life a hard struggle to maintain life, and millions die before their time, of overstrain and under nurture.

When the matter is looked on in this way, the idea of compensation—the idea that justice demands that those who have engrossed the natural revenue of the state must be paid the capitalized value of all future engrossment before the state can resume those revenues—is too preposterous for serious statement.

And while in the nature of things any change from wrong-doing to right-doing must entail loss upon those who profit by the wrong-doing, and this can no more be prevented than can parallel lines be made to meet; yet it must also be remembered that in the nature of things the loss is merely relative, the gain absolute. Whoever will examine the subject will see that in the abandonment of the present unnatural and unjust method of raising public revenues and the adoption of the natural and just method even those who relatively lose will be enormous gainers.

 

Private property in land— the subjecting of land to that exclusive ownership which rightfully attaches to the products of labor—is a denial of the true right of property, which gives to each the equal right to exert his labor and the exclusive right to its results.

It differs from slavery only in its form, which is that of making property of the indispensable natural factor of production, while slavery makes property of the human factor; and it has the same purpose and effect, that of compelling some men to work for others.

Its abolition therefore does not mean the destruction of any right but the cessation of a wrong—that for the future the municipal law shall conform to the moral law, and that each shall have his own.

“In the days of the Weimar Republic, Germany’s pharmaceutical industry was thriving – the country was a leading exporter both of opiates, such as morphine, and of cocaine – and drugs were available on every street corner. It was during this period that Hitler’s inner circle established an image of him as an unassailable figure who was willing to work tirelessly on behalf of his country, and who would permit no toxins – not even coffee – to enter his body.”

“Some drugs, however, had their uses, particularly in a society hell bent on keeping up with the energetic Hitler (“Germany awake!” the Nazis ordered, and the nation had no choice but to snap to attention). A substance that could “integrate shirkers, malingerers, defeatists and whiners” into the labour market might even be sanctioned. 

At a company called Temmler in Berlin, Dr Fritz Hauschild, its head chemist, inspired by the successful use of the American amphetamine Benzedrine at the 1936 Olympic Games, began trying to develop his own wonder drug – and a year later, he patented the first German methyl-amphetamine. Pervitin, as it was known, quickly became a sensation, used as a confidence booster and performance enhancer by everyone from secretaries to actors to train drivers (initially, it could be bought without prescription). 

It even made its way into confectionery. “Hildebrand chocolates are always a delight,” went the slogan. Women were recommended to eat two or three, after which they would be able to get through their housework in no time at all – with the added bonus that they would also lose weight, given the deleterious effect Pervitin had on the appetite.”

“Naturally, it wasn’t long before soldiers were relying on it too. In Blitzed, Ohler reproduces a letter sent in 1939 by Heinrich Böll, the future Nobel laureate, from the frontline to his parents back at home, in which he begs them for Pervitin, the only way he knew to fight the great enemy – sleep. 

In Berlin, it was the job of Dr Otto Ranke, the director of the Institute for General and Defence Physiology, to protect the Wehrmacht’s “animated machines” – ie its soldiers – from wear, and after conducting some tests he concluded that Pervitin was indeed excellent medicine for exhausted soldiers. Not only did it make sleep unnecessary (Ranke, who would himself become addicted to the drug, observed that he could work for 50 hours on Pervitin without feeling fatigued), it also switched off inhibitions, making fighting easier, or at any rate less terrifying.

 

In 1940, as plans were made to invade France through the Ardennes mountains, a “stimulant decree” was sent out to army doctors, recommending that soldiers take one tablet per day, two at night in short sequence, and another one or two tablets after two or three hours if necessary. The Wehrmacht ordered 35m tablets for the army and Luftwaffe, and the Temmler factory increased production. The likes of Böll, it’s fair to say, wouldn’t need to ask their parents for Pervitin again.

 

Was Blitzkrieg, then, largely the result of the Wehrmacht’s reliance on crystal meth? How far is Ohler willing to go with this? He smiles. “Well, Mommsen always told me not to be mono-causal. But the invasion of France was made possible by the drugs. No drugs, no invasion.”

 

“Though Hitler may not have used Pervitin, it would have been one of very few substances he didn’t try. According to Ohler, Morell’s personal notes suggest he gave Hitler some 800 injections over the years, notably including frequent doses of Eukodal, the German brand name for the synthetic opiate oxycodone. Later in the war, when things started to go badly for the Axis, Morell reportedly gave Hitler his first dose of Eukodal before an important meeting with the Italian leader Benito Mussolini, among others, in July 1943. By the spring of 1945, shortly before Hitler committed suicide in his Berlin bunker along with his new wife, Eva Braun (also a patient of Morell’s), Ohler concluded the Führer was likely suffering from withdrawal due to Morell’s inability to find drugs in the devastated city.

 

Ohler has stressed that his book doesn’t seek to blame the Nazis’ war crimes on their use of drugs. Though his research suggests some of Hitler’s during the war could have related to the drugs he was taking, he points out that the foundations for the horrific Final Solution, for example, were laid out in Hitler’s “Mein Kampf,” and the implementation of related policies began in the 1930s, before the heavy drug use began.”

What is mass formation actually ?

It’s a specific kind of group formation that makes people radically blind to everything that goes against what the group believes in. In this way, they take the most absurd beliefs for granted.

To give one example, during the Iran revolution in 1979, a mass formation emerged and people started to believe that the portrait of their leader—Ayatollah Khomeini—was visible on the surface of the moon. Each time there was a full moon in the sky, people in the street would point at it, showing each other where exactly Khomeini’s face could be seen.

A second characteristic of an individual in the grip of mass formation is that they become willing to radically sacrifice individual interest for the sake of the collective. The communist leaders who were sentenced to death by Stalin—usually innocent of the charges against them—accepted their sentences, sometimes with statements such as, “If that is what I can do for the communist party, I will do it with pleasure.”

Thirdly, individuals in mass formation become radically intolerant for dissonant voices. In the ultimate stage of the mass formation, they will typically commit atrocities toward those who do not go along with the masses. And even more characteristic: they will do so as if it is their ethical duty. To refer to the revolution in Iran again: I’ve spoken with an Iranian woman who had seen with her own eyes how a mother reported her son to the state and hung the noose with her own hands around his neck when he was on the scaffold. And after he was killed, she claimed to be a heroine for doing what she did.

 

Those are the effects of mass formation. Such processes can emerge in different ways. It can emerge spontaneously (as happened in Nazi Germany), or it can be intentionally provoked through indoctrination and propaganda (as happened in the Soviet Union). But if it is not constantly supported by indoctrination and propaganda disseminated through mass media, it will usually be short-lived and will not develop into a full-fledged totalitarian state.

Whether it initially emerged spontaneously or was provoked intentionally from the beginning, no mass formation, however, can continue to exist for any length of time unless it is constantly fed by indoctrination and propaganda disseminated through mass media.

If this happens, mass formation becomes the basis of an entirely new kind of state that emerged for the first time in the beginning of the twentieth century: the totalitarian state.

This kind of state has an extremely destructive impact on the population because it doesn’t only control public and political space—as classical dictatorships do—but also private space. It can do the latter because it has a huge secret police at its disposal: this part of the population that is in the grip of the mass formation and that fanatically believes in the narratives distributed by the elite through mass media. In this way, totalitarianism is always based on “a diabolic pact between the masses and the elite” (see Arendt, The Origins of Totalitarianism).

 

I second an intuition articulated by Hannah Arendt in 1951: a new totalitarianism is emerging in our society. 

Not a communist or fascist totalitarianism but a technocratic totalitarianism. 

A kind of totalitarianism that is not led by “a gang leader” such as Stalin or Hitler but by dull bureaucrats and technocrats.

As always, a certain part of the population will resist and won’t fall prey to the mass formation. If this part of the population makes the right choices, it will ultimately be victorious. If it makes the wrong choices, it will perish.

To see what the right choices are, we have to start from a profound and accurate analysis of the nature of the phenomenon of mass formation. If we do so, we will clearly see what the right choices are, both at strategic and at the ethical levels.

That’s what my book The Psychology of Totalitarianism presents: a historical–psychological analysis of the rise of the masses throughout the last few hundreds of years as it led to the emergence of totalitarianism.

The coronavirus crisis did not come out of the blue. It fits into a series of increasingly desperate and self-destructive societal responses to objects of fear: terrorists, global warming, coronavirus. Whenever a new object of fear arises in society, there is only one response: increased control. Meanwhile, human beings can only tolerate a certain amount of control. Coercive control leads to fear and fear leads to more coercive control. In this way, society falls victim to a vicious cycle that leads inevitably to totalitarianism (i.e., extreme government control) and ends in the radical destruction of both the psychological and physical integrity of human beings.

 

We have to consider the current fear and psychological discomfort to be a problem in itself, a problem that cannot be reduced to a virus or any other “object of threat.” Our fear originates on a completely different level—that of the failure of the Grand Narrative of our society. 

This is the narrative of mechanistic science, 

in which man is reduced to a biological organism. 

A narrative that ignores the psychological, spiritual, and ethical dimensions of human beings and thereby has a devastating effect at the level of human relationships. 

Something in this narrative causes man to become isolated from his fellow man, and from nature. Something in it causes man to stop resonating with the world around him. 

Something in it turns human beings into atomized subjects. It is precisely this atomized subject that, according to Hannah Arendt, is the elementary building block of the totalitarian state.

 

At the level of the population, the mechanist ideology created the conditions that make people vulnerable for mass formation. It disconnected people from their natural and social environment, created experiences of radical absence of meaning and purpose in life, and it led to extremely high levels of so-called “free-floating” anxiety, frustration, and aggression, meaning anxiety, frustration, and aggression that is not connected with a mental representation; anxiety, frustration, and aggression in which people don’t know what they feel anxious, frustrated, and aggressive about. It is in this state that people become vulnerable to mass formation.

 

The mechanist ideology also had a specific effect at the level of the “elite”—it changed their psychological characteristics. Before the Enlightenment, society was led by noblemen and clergy (the “ancien régime”). 

This elite imposed its will on the masses in an overt way through its authority. This authority was granted by the religious Grand Narratives that held a firm grip on people’s minds. As the religious narratives lost their grip and modern democratic ideology emerged, this changed. 

The leaders now had to be elected by the masses. And in order to be elected by the masses, they had to find out what the masses wanted and more or less give it to them. Hence, the leaders actually became followers.

 

This problem was met in a rather predictable but pernicious way. If the masses cannot be commanded, they have to be manipulated. That’s where modern indoctrination and propaganda was born, as it is described in the works of people such as Lippman, Trotter, and Bernays. We will go through the work of the founding fathers of propaganda in order to fully grasp the societal function and impact of propaganda on society. 

Indoctrination and propaganda are usually associated with totalitarian states such as the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, or the People’s Republic of China. But it is easy to show that from the beginning of the twentieth century, indoctrination and propaganda were also constantly used in virtually every “democratic” state worldwide. Besides these two, we will describe other techniques of mass-manipulation, such as brainwashing and psychological warfare.

 

In modern times, the explosive proliferation of mass surveillance technology led to new and previously unimaginable means for the manipulation of the masses.
